We had a nice change of pace in the fields last week with a whole crew of students from the Litchfield High School out to the farm on Wednesday for a day of community service. The extra hands were much appreciated spreading compost, pounding T-posts, cleaning up in the packshed, and eradicating tent caterpillars. They were a very friendly and eager group and we look forward to working more with the local schools in the future!
Nick also found the first morels of the season in our grove last week. Very exciting and oh so tasty! The first wild edibles of the season make us even more eager for the produce to come. The wind today is really toughening up the plants waiting to be transplanted as well as the plants in the field. Growing has been slow this season due to the cold temperatures but we are hoping the heat to come this week will speed things along. And we hope to avoid the severe weather, especially the hail!
