Mid-January has passed, Abe’s first birthday is just around the corner, and we are busy preparing for the 2012 season. We just placed our seed orders (share members: thank you for your suggestions from the Share Member Surveys!), and our bulk potting soil recently arrived, waiting patiently for March when we will fire-up our new greenhouse. The garlic is under cover in the field and hopefully was not duped by the warm weather in January. This chilly week has snapped us back into the reality of winter and makes us grateful for the warm weeks we had earlier to get projects done around the farm. For the sake of our cross country skis and the dry fields of last fall, we patiently wait for some measurable snow to blanket the farm. On a blustery cold night like tonight, a quote from Abe’s favorite book “Old Bear” seems appropriate: And the cold went on forever…
