One of the tasks we took on this late winter was to build a germination chamber for our greenhouse. A germination chamber is like a mini greenhouse (albeit dark) within a greenhouse. With insulated walls, an element heating a pan of water below, and racks of plants above, the chamber aids in germination of seeds for vegetable, herb and flower transplants. In the early days of greenhouse season, we are able to keep our greenhouse set at a lower temperature, thus saving propane. With the stacked design, the chamber also saves greenhouse space.
Our germination chamber is a mixed design growing off of ideas from several other farm friends including Loon Organics, Hogsback Farm and Northern Harvest Farm. One of the many things we love about the sustainable farming community is the willingness to share ideas and learn together. Thank you to those farms for their insights. Plants are loving it!

Hi, I am interested in growing micro greens and am researching various forms of germination racks. Have you had any experience or heard of any success germinating micro greens using this method?

Are you still using it? Do you like it still? Do you have plans for it?
