Freya, Joan, Nick and Abe Olson
We are humbled to be raising two kids on this land in Litchfield, MN along with a great diversity of vegetables, herbs, fruits, flowers, and a small amount of livestock. Our interest in farming stems from our love of food and eating well, our time teaching environmental education in Minnesota, California, and Argentina, combined with our time spent at family farms growing up. Our journey as farmers has broadened our desire to raise food in environmentally sound ways while promoting social justice and being part of a thriving community that values the land and people.
Prairie Drifter Farm is a diversified, organic vegetable farm serving the communities of Dassel, Litchfield, and St. Cloud, Minnesota through a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) operation. Our organic certification is through Midwest Organic Services Association (MOSA). Joan is a food safety trainer for farmers in our region and we are dedicated to a high level of health and food safety in our operation.
This farmland is located in the transition zone between the prairie grasslands of western Minnesota and the deciduous forest of central Minnesota. We acknowledge that we are living and farming on Dakota land and recognize the problematic history of land ownership and racial injustice in our past and present. As our consciousness grows, we strive to honor this land and its history through restoration and right relationship. Through our farming practices, we strive to continually build healthy and vibrant soils, increase habitat and forage for pollinators, and increase diversity on this farm landscape. Our farm is committed to social justice in our local community and the broader community. We invest time, resources, and profit into organizations that are working toward food and land justice.
Our Current Farm Team
We have been blessed with phenomenal farm crew members over our years living on this land. We could not do this work of raising food without their dedicated labor, thoughtful minds, critical thinking skills, community building abilities and passion. A great thank you to Sarah, Elijah and Jordon who helped us during the 2023 season!
With Gratitude to Past Farm Crew Members
A great thanks goes out to past farm crew members who have added depth, breadth, and innovation to Prairie Drifter Farm since 2011. We are indebted to all that you shared during your time on this land to help grow food, steward land, and develop this community.
